The chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming local government elections in Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has promised to ensure that the Bonny Fire Station is functional once he assumes office.

Pepple, who said this on Monday, August 18, 2025 during the ward-to-ward campaign of his party at Allison Square in Ward 2 Bonny LGA, was accompanied by his running mate, Ibinyefagha Alabere.

APC Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates for Bonny LGA, Abinye Pepple and Ibinyefagha Alabere, respectively.

He stated that while he was a member of the State House of Assembly, he made strenuous efforts to secure the approval of the then Governor, Nyesom Wike for the construction of the fire station as a constituency project.

According to him, he went further to also secure the support of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to sponsor the training of the personnel that would manage the fire station.

He regretted, however, that the take-off and sustainability of the fire station became a challenge when the gas firm requested a legislative framework to integrate the station into the Bonny Utility Company, which manages electricity and water reticulation in the area.

He lamented that unsuccessful attempt to get the legislative approval by way of a bye-law and approval of the then local government administration led to the stunted status of the fire station, assuring that when elected into office as Chairman of the LGA, he would ensure the fire station takes off.

The former member of the State House of Assembly, who himself is an emergency management expert outlined the benefits of having a fire station in an industrialized community like Bonny Island.

He reiterated his determination to do everything in his power to ensure that Bonny has the capacity to manage emergencies such as fire, flood and anything else.

In attendance at the campaign rally were the Chairmen of the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bonny LGA, Allswell Green and Halliday, respectively, a former member of the State House of Assembly, George Tolofari, former Executive Director of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), Lawrence Pepple, and a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny LGA; Charles Jumbo.

Others were the Director General of the Sufficient Grace Renewed Hope Campaign Council; Karibi Dan-Jumbo, Councillorship candidates of the 12 Wards, Coordinator of Grassroots Development Initiative, Nengi Hart, among other dignitaries.
