A member of the House of Representatives, Cyril Hart has offered investment ideas to boat owners in the riverine areas of Rivers State.

Hart, who represents Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency, offered these ideas in a post he made on his verified Meta (formerly Facebook) account on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

He foretold that with the completion of the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Trans Kalabari Road, there will be a dearth of passengers commuting by sea between the riverine and urban areas.

The Bodo-Bonny Road connects Bonny, Andoni and Gokana LGAs with travelers able to make trips to either Eleme, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa on the Western flank or Uyo and Calabar on the Eastern flank when they connect with the East-West Road.

The Trans Kalabari Road links up Degema, Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Emohua LGAs and connects up to the East-West Road at which point, commuters can either head West to Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States or to Port Harcourt, Eleme and Uyo on the East.

Recall that on Monday, December 8, 2025, President Bola Tinubu through the Minister of Works, David Umahi temporarily opened the Bodo-Bonny Road to traffic for commuters though with a caveat that commercial motorcycles, tricycles and heavy-duty vehicles.

As for the Trans Kalabari Road, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has promised that wok will be expedited on the road project to fasttrack its delivery within the shortest possible time to ease commuting between the rural areas and Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The House of Representatives member urged the boat owners to sell their boat immediately and purchase vehicles to ply both roads as a way of leveraging on the business opportunities they present.

“I repeat, sell those boats now and buy buses, vans, and tipper trucks.”

“By the time the Trans Kalabari Road is completed, there would be lots of boats and engines up for sale from the riverine communities. The right time to sell is now.”

“We must endeavour to play in the logistics business that the road offers. Collaborate amongst yourselves. Put funds together and get involved.”

Mr. Hart, who is a seasoned entrepreneur himself before going into politics, highlighted the fact that against the backdrop of concerns related to insecurity in the country, it would be unacceptable to have the transportation system in the riverine areas in the hands of non-natives.

“It will be inappropriate and unacceptable for outsiders to convey our people to and fro Port-Harcourt.”

In the seven days, the Bodo-Bonny Road has been open to traffic, there has been heavy influx of people and vehicles into Bonny.

Checks by Kristina Reports reveal that transporters currently charge between N3,000 and N5,000 depending on the vehicle and destination of the passengers between Bonny and other places.
