SAFETY ON NIGERIAN ROADS: FRSC Zonal Commander Visits Bonny Island, Engages Stakeholders

In a bid to assure safety and security on roads within in his area of operation, the Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Roads Safety Corps Zone 6 (South-South), Assistant Corps Marshal Henry Benamaisia visited Bonny Island in Rivers State where he engaged with stakeholders.

Assistant Corps Marshal Benamaisia, who is in-charge of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers States, was accompanied by the Sector Commander, Rivers State Zone 6, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, State Coordinator of Special Marshalls, Rivers State; Dr, Andy Uzor, and Director, Southern Region, Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, Dr Confidence Eke, amongst others.

ACM Benamaisia’s entourage was received on arrival by the acting Unit Commander of FRSC Bonny Unit Command, Chief Route Commander Comfort Mc-Orjinta, alongside other senior officers.

Poised to deepen inter-agency synergy with a view to achieving the strategic objectives of the FRSC, ACM Benamaisia visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Bonny where he discussed with the Commanding Officer, Capt. Emmanuel Fingesi, on how both agencies can partner in scaling up safety and security on the roads, especially in Bonny Local Government Area.

The FRSC South-South Zonal Commander praised the Nigerian Navy for being a reputable security organization, soliciting synergy in making the roads safer given that roads are critical and strategic for security, intelligence gathering, as well as social activities.

Responding, Capt. Fingesi, who was represented by the Executive Officer of the NNFOB, Commander Mustapha Mohammed, expressed his appreciation to the FRSC Corps Marshall for the visit, saying that the move will improve inter-agency collaboration and enhance safety and security on the road. 

ACM Benamaisia later met with officers and men of the Bonny Unit Command where he presented an award of commendation to the acting Unit Commander, CRC Comfort Mc-Orjinta for her effective and resourceful management of the Corps’ mandate in the area, commending her team for their unity of purpose and efficiency.

He later visited the gas liquefaction plant of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited where he investitured the company’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi as an Honorary Special Marshall, applauding the gas firms demonstrated commitment to regulatory compliance in its land transport management.

Mr Anowi equally thanked the FRSC for the honour done him, reiterating the NLNG’s determination to continue to contribute to efforts geared towards scaling up safety on Nigerian roads by ensuring ongoing compliance of its staff, vendors and stakeholders to extant traffic rules and regulations.

ACM Benamaisia also paid a courtesy call on the Amadabo of Finima, Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert Brown, Kongo XVII at his palace in Finima, Bonny LGA, where he also investitured him as an Honorary Special Marshall, noting how he has deployed his office and influence in supporting efforts aimed at improving safety and security on roads within his domain.   

The FRSC South-South Zonal Commander’s last stop was the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas Bonny where he met the Rector, Dr Victor Okolobah and his management team and discussed areas of partnership and collaboration such as researching possible ways and means of changing the road designs in Bonny Island for effective traffic management as well review and renew safety procedures in the Polytechnic.

In all it was an immersive experience for the Zonal Commander as he had the unique opportunity to interface directly with issues affecting effective management of traffic in Bonny LGA and assuring safety and security on roads in the LGA, engage with stakeholders and feel their pulse on how to partner to achieve mutual objectives geared towards safe commuting in the area.
