In compliance to a restraining order by a Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the nationwide enforcement of its tinted glass permit policy, pending the determination of a substantive suit before the court.
The suspension, which was announced on Thursday, January 1, 2026 by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, in Abuja, comes barely days after the Force had announced, on Monday, December 15, 2025, that enforcement of the policy would resume from Friday, January 2, 2026.

The NPF had explained at the time that the decision was part of its constitutional responsibility to strengthen public safety and enhance internal security across the country.
However, the planned enforcement suffered a legal setback after the Police was served with an interim order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on 17 December 2025.
The order restrained the Nigeria Police Force from proceeding with the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the possible vacation of the order.
Hundeyin disclosed that the Police have since entered appearance in the matter, noting that the Force has also raised preliminary objections and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order, adding that the matter was adjourned to Tuesday, January 20, 2026 for further proceedings.
The statement reads in part, “In strict compliance with the subsisting court order, the Nigeria Police Force has placed the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy on hold nationwide, pending the decision of the court.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirms that the Force remains resolute in upholding the rule of law while protecting lives and property.
“The Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country.”
The Nigeria Police Force further assured members of the public that they would be duly informed of any new developments, emphasizing that clear guidance and updates would be issued after the court reaches a determination, in the overriding interest of public order, national security, and respect for the rule of law.
